Ancient Greece had numerous cities, way too many to list here. So, I'm just going to write the first major city, Athens. The four major cities are Athens, Sparta, Thebes and Syracuse. Those were the big four most populated cities. Im going to tell you a little bit about Athens.
Athens- Athens was approximately started at 7000 BC. Athens is famous for its Acropolis, a ruin from Ancient times. It symbolized the city back then and now. At first Athens was a small town, but then it grew in to a big major city and a big part of Ancient and present day Greece. Athens was named after he Goddess Athena. Athena dropped a seed into the earth and it grew into a beautiful olive tree. The citizens thought the olive tree was more important than Poseidon's water gift.
The Greeks questioned who and how they would rule Greece. Over the course of time different cities had different forms of government. Some were Democracy, Monarchy, Tyranny and Oligarchy. Athen's shows democracy, and is the birthplace of democracy, thats why Athens is so famous.
